Chainalysis says attackers used AI agent techniques to breach its platform
Blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis disclosed a breach it links to what it calls “offensive agentic techniques”, meaning attackers used AI agents to carry out parts of the intrusion, according to Dataconomy. The company says exposed data was limited to user IDs, names, email addresses and role labels for people on its platform, and it found no evidence that investigation content, passwords or session tokens were accessed. The reporting does not say how the attackers got in, how long they stayed, how many customers are affected, or whether the agents were off-the-shelf or custom-built.
Alan's takeThis is beyond ironic. The company that tracks crypto thieves just got robbed. No word on how long they had access. There is plenty of AI fearmongering to go around, but AI-enabled hacking is the one that is most real and worries me the most. Bad actors now have tireless agents that are doing the grunt work of intrusion day and night. Every business leaders should assume that their data will be targeted by the most aggressive thieves on the planet because that is exactly what AI hacking represents.
