60% say overseeing AI takes as much effort as training a new hire

Founder Reports, a business publication, surveyed 2,052 employed US adults who use AI for work at least weekly in October 2026. Of the 1,856 who have trained an employee, 60% say training, overseeing, checking and fixing AI’s work takes at least as much effort as training a new hire, and one in three say it takes more. The other 40% say AI takes less effort, a share that rises with how often they use it. Across the full sample, 31.6% spend at least three hours a week on this oversight. The responses are self-reported.

Alan's takeThis should be obvious but it is frequently missed. People should apply AI to tasks that are easily verified. If it takes you as much time to check the AIs work as doing it yourself in the first place then any benefit from AI is artificial.
